Door Schedule — All Doors

Quick-reference table for all four doors. Frame, jamb depth, threshold, seal, closer, hinges, and handle for each door ID. Detailed cards below.

All door hardware is Acoustic Critical [AC]. Frame type, jamb depth, threshold mechanism, and seal system are specified assemblies — do not substitute with standard door hardware. A 1mm perimeter gap reduces effective STC by 10–15 points.

Door-by-Door Detail Cards

Full specification for each door including installation notes and special requirements.

D1 — Entry Door
Exterior   South wall, SE corner — Main entrance
STC 50 Rated
  • Size 90 × 210 cm
  • Weight 70 kg (approx.)
  • Frame 16 ga steel, welded corners, filled with sand/lead sheet
  • Jamb Depth 140 mm
  • Threshold Automatic drop seal + neoprene gasket
  • Seal Type Magnetic perimeter seal, continuous compression gasket
  • Closer Surface-mounted door closer — 3–5 s close time from 90°
  • Hinges 3× heavy-duty ball-bearing hinges (sized for 70 kg leaf)
  • Handle Lever handle, keyed deadbolt
  • Leaf Steel-clad solid core, manufacturer STC 50 certified — no hollow-core substitution
Exterior door: add weather stripping + threshold rain deflector. Magnetic seal requires pull force verification >2 kg/m. Add 'LIVE' indicator light above exterior face.
D2 — Control Room Door
Interior   Buffer wall west face — Editing → Control Room
STC 45 Rated
  • Size 80 × 210 cm
  • Frame 18 ga steel, welded corners, grout-filled
  • Jamb Depth 120 mm
  • Threshold Automatic drop seal
  • Seal Type Neoprene perimeter gasket, adjustable
  • Closer Surface-mounted door closer — 3–5 s close time from 90°
  • Hinges 3× ball-bearing hinges
  • Handle Lever handle, passage (no lock)
  • Leaf Steel-clad solid core, STC 45 certified
Internal acoustic door. Mounts in Buffer Spine wall (STC 55) — door is weakest element at this junction. Do not reduce door STC below wall STC minus 15 points. Swing direction: into Control Room.
D3 — VO Live Door
Interior   VO/Control partition — Control Room → VO Live
STC 45 Rated
  • Size 80 × 210 cm
  • Frame 18 ga steel, welded corners, grout-filled
  • Jamb Depth 120 mm
  • Threshold Automatic drop seal
  • Seal Type Neoprene perimeter gasket, adjustable
  • Closer Surface-mounted door closer — 3–5 s close time from 90°
  • Hinges 3× ball-bearing hinges
  • Handle Lever handle, passage (no lock)
  • Leaf Steel-clad solid core, STC 45 certified
Does NOT overlap the observation window (window x=40–120 cm; D3 at x=126–206 cm). Verify clear swing arc before installation — swing must not foul observation window frame. Add studio 'LIVE' indicator light visible from Control Room side.
D4 — Video Studio Door
Interior   Editing/Video Studio partition — Editing → Video Studio
STC 40 Rated
  • Size 90 × 210 cm
  • Frame 18 ga steel, welded corners, grout-filled
  • Jamb Depth 120 mm
  • Threshold Automatic drop seal
  • Seal Type Neoprene perimeter gasket, adjustable
  • Closer Surface-mounted door closer — 3–5 s close time from 90°
  • Hinges 3× ball-bearing hinges
  • Handle Lever handle, passage (no lock)
  • Leaf Steel-clad solid core, STC 40 certified — must not exceed host wall STC 40 (W7 partition)
STC matched to host partition (W7, STC 40) — specifying a higher-STC door here provides no acoustic benefit and wastes budget. 90cm width accommodates camera equipment through-passage. Swing direction: into Video Studio to clear Editing circulation path.

Frame Specification Comparison

Two frame types are used in this project. The exterior entry (D1) uses a heavier specification. All three interior acoustic doors (D2, D3, D4) share the same frame type.

Spec Type A — STC 50 Frame (D1 only) Type B — STC 45 Frame (D2, D3, D4)
Gauge 16 ga steel 18 ga steel
Corner Treatment Fully welded corners Fully welded corners
Frame Fill Sand + lead sheet sandwich fill Structural grout fill
Jamb Depth 140 mm 120 mm
Threshold Automatic drop seal + neoprene gasket Automatic drop seal
Perimeter Seal Magnetic compression seal (continuous, perimeter) Neoprene perimeter gasket, adjustable
Weather Seal Weather strip + rain deflector at threshold Not required (interior)
Hinges 3× ball-bearing (heavy duty, for 70 kg leaf) 3× ball-bearing (standard acoustic grade)
Closer Surface closer (heavy-duty) Surface closer (standard)
Handle Lever + keyed deadbolt Lever, passage
Sealant at install Tremco Acoustical Sealant — full perimeter, WET before frame set Tremco Acoustical Sealant — full perimeter, WET before frame set

Acoustic Door Maintenance Schedule

Acoustic door performance degrades over time. A 1mm perimeter gap can reduce effective STC by 10–15 points. Inspect ALL doors annually at minimum, or after any physical impact event.

Critical: Propping acoustic doors open during sessions destroys all isolation. Consider magnetic hold-open devices that release on studio 'LIVE' signal. Inspect closing mechanisms if staff are found propping doors.

🔍 Seal Checks

  • Perimeter gaskets: check for compression set, cracking, or gaps — replace if any light visible with door closed
  • Drop seals: verify full contact with threshold when door closes — adjust or replace mechanism if gap exists
  • Threshold gaskets: inspect for wear from foot traffic — D1 exterior threshold especially vulnerable
  • Magnetic seals (D1 only): verify magnetic strip alignment and pull force >2 kg/m

Closer & Hinge Checks

  • Door closer: verify latching force pulls door fully into seal contact — door must not rest ajar
  • Hinge pins: lubricate annually — squeaking indicates wear that may cause staff to prop doors open
  • Closing speed: 3–5 seconds from 90° to latch — too fast causes slam damage, too slow means door left open
Inspection interval: Annual (minimum), or immediately after any physical impact. Log inspection date and findings in the building maintenance record. Replace any seal showing visible light gaps — partial re-sealing is not sufficient.

Frame Installation Requirements

Sealant — apply WET:
Acoustic sealant (Tremco) must be applied wet around the full frame perimeter before the frame is set in the opening. Do not attempt to inject sealant into finished gaps retroactively — it will not achieve the same performance.
Frame plumb and level:
Frames must be plumb and level to ±1mm. Out-of-square frames cause perimeter seal gaps even when the gasket is new. Use a laser level and shim as required before final frame attachment.
Drop seal test:
After installation, verify automatic drop seal deploys fully to the threshold with zero gap under the door leaf. Test with a sheet of paper — it should not pass under a closed door. Adjust drop seal mechanism until this test passes.
Light test — pass criterion:
With all lights on inside the room and all lights off in the corridor, close the door in darkness. No light should be visible at any point around the door perimeter or threshold. This is the acceptance test before sign-off.
